QUERIDOS CINEMATIKEROS on MONDAY, DECEMBER 30th, 2013…

we will be showing Akira Kurosawa’s “Seven Samurai” which we were supposed to share with all of you last week (12/23/13) and we actually had to replaced it at the last moment with “Throne of blood”…

the reason for last week switcheroo was due to not having all  seven samurais at the studio because some of them got drunk and were nursing a hangover  from one of the wild Maui Xmas parties they attended on their way over to the Cinematiki…

tonight, we hope to see all of you and all of them…

Cheers and lOOking forward…

Seven Samurai[1] (七人の侍 Shichinin no Samurai?) is a 1954 Japanese period adventure drama film co-written, edited, and directed by Akira Kurosawa. The film takes place in 1587 during the Warring States Period of Japan. It follows the story of a village of farmers that hire seven masterless samurai (ronin) to combat Seven Samurai poster.jpgbandits who will return after the harvest to steal their crops.

Seven Samurai is described as one of the greatest and most influential films ever made,[2] and is one of a select few Japanese films to become widely known in the West for an extended period of time. It is the subject of both popular and critical acclaim; it was voted onto the top three of the Sight & Sound critics’ list of greatest films of all time in 1982, and onto the directors’ top ten films lists in the 1992 and 2002 polls.[3]

MONDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2013 *** THE CONFORMIST *** directed by BERNARDO BERTOLUCCI with JEAN-LOUIS TRINTIGNANT, DOMINIQUE SANDA

While presenting this story, Bertolucci undertakes nothing less than a visual history of the cinema, employing every style from the earliest days of silent film onward. As the plot advances, the cinematic style grows increasingly modern. Alienation, sexual confusion, Oedipal rage, incredible risks taken to slake momentary lust, betrayal, nice clothes, and lovely interiors:  classic Bertolucci themes, fully explored here for the first time.  Il Conformista remains one of the most beautiful films and certainly Bertolucci’s most coherent work, an accomplishment of genius. It’s never tedious, pretentious, or overly arty. It can be disturbing as hell.

MONDAY, DECEMBER 2nd.2013 *** ” RED ” *** directed by KRYSZTOF KIESLOWSKI***with JEAN-LOUIS TRINTIGNANT and IRENE JACOB***

Three Colors-Red.jpg      Three Colors: Red (French: Trois couleurs: Rouge, Polish: Trzy kolory. Czerwony) is a 1994 film co-written, produced, and directed by Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Kieślowski. It is the final film of The Three Colors Trilogy, which examines the French Revolutionary ideals; it is preceded by Blue and White. Kieślowski had announced that this would be his final film,[1] which proved true with the director’s sudden death in 1996. Red is about fraternity, which it examines by showing characters whose lives gradually become closely interconnected, with bonds forming between two characters who appear to have little in common.
