10/1/2012= HANNAH AND HER SISTERS…directed by WOODY ALLEN…more than a funny face…

peter: those two woody allen films were part of the series ” new york directors ” that also includes films by ;sidney lumet, martin scorsese and john cassavetes…
thank you for your suggestion…
in his very long-50 year- film career, there are different periods of woody allen i find superb and others that are just HIS yeARLY experimentations …
some come out better than others…
as a matter of fact : i find that he was doing his most mature work (crimes and midemeanors & hannah and her sisters) by writing/creating/directing about a culture he knew about it (the art scene in newyorkcity in the 80’s)…then 20 years later he had a fantasy pastiche about a culture/city/country he just imagined (vicky-cristina-barcelona) and missed most of the points and characters by 2,743 miles and three wrong dialects/accents…
OR “TO ROME WITH LOVE” in which woody again wasted some of the best italian talent in an inane , embarrasingly no-funny comedy…
but in between he scored a nine and a half with “midnight in paris” in which he found the right balance between his idiosyncratic realism and the magic, surreal world of past midnights in paris…
If this is a beginning of a WOODY ALLEN retrospective, would be great to see his recent movies… (Vicky, Christina Barcelona)
